Each year, Clean Cities and Communities Directors from over 75 active coalitions submit annual reports of their activities and accomplishments for the previous calendar year. These reports provide a yearly snapshot of alternative fuels sales and use of alternative fuel vehicles, as well as idle reduction initiatives, fuel economy improvements, and reductions to vehicle miles traveled (VMT). Data is collected, formed into a report, and published by the U.S. Department of Energy.
The information collected in each Annual Report supports program evaluation and planning of future efforts that go on to help public entities, private companies, and the general public to make well-informed energy choices that save money, provide resilience through fuel diversification, and promote cleaner air through emissions reduction.
In 2023, Clean Cities and Communities:
- Achieved an energy use impact (EUI) equivalent to just over 1 billion gallons of gasoline
- Prevented nearly 9.1 million tons of GHG emissions
- Increased greenhouse gas (GHG) benefits by focusing on technologies with high GHG benefits and alternative fuels with low lifecycle carbon intensity (CI), such as renewable natural gas
