Francis Tuttle Technology Center
Francis Tuttle Technology Center, a career-tech school located in Oklahoma City, provides hands-on instruction for professionals who work with or around electric and hybrid vehicles. Designed for technicians, first responders, and fleet personnel, the program covers vehicle identification, safety procedures and best practices, and the fundamentals of electric vehicle systems. Participants gain practical, hands-on experience working with live vehicles and training simulators, building skills in inspection, maintenance, and repair of alternative fuel technologies.
Oklahoma City Community College
Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) offers alternative fuel vehicle programs for electric, CNG, and propane systems aimed at preparing students for the Oklahoma State License Skill Assessments and Examination. OCCC’s available programs include certification courses for the following job functions: Electric Vehicle Technician, CNG Compressor Operator, CNG Vehicle/Equipment Technician, and CNG Compressor Mechanic. Each program is designed for professionals with some education or experience in the vehicle maintenance and repair industry. The programs build on existing skills by covering safety, correct inspection methods, maintenance, and repair of CNG, LPG and EV vehicles with current equipment, tools, and service information.
Alternative Fuel Vehicle Institute
The Alternative Fuel Vehicle Institute (AFVi) training program offers comprehensive technical instruction for professionals working with a wide range of alternative fuel vehicles, including electric, hydrogen, propane, and natural gas systems. The programs cover safety practices, fuel system inspection, maintenance, and diagnostics across multiple vehicle types. Trainings are available in-person, live online, and in self-paced e-learning formats. AFVi also offers opportunities for industry-recognized certification.
National Fire Protection Association
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) provides self-paced courses designed to help first and second responders safely manage incidents involving electric, hybrid, and other alternative fuel vehicles. The NFPA’s Alternative Fuel Vehicles Training Program for Emergency Responders Online Training teaches first responders how to respond to emergencies involving electric, hybrid, CNG, LPG, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Additionally, the NFPA provides a series of Electric Vehicle Community Preparedness resources for vehicle technicians, fleet operators, electric utilities, dealerships, and more.
National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence
The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Electric Vehicle (EV) certification program provides industry-recognized credentials focused on high-voltage safety for professionals working with hybrid and electric vehicles. The program includes two certification levels: a foundational course for individuals who may encounter EVs in the workplace, and an advanced certification for trained technicians performing diagnostics and repairs on high-voltage systems. These certifications emphasize hazard awareness, safe work practices, and proper handling of EV components, helping ensure that automotive professionals can safely and effectively work with emerging vehicle technologies.
National Volunteer Fire Council
The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) provides online courses through its Virtual Classroom platform. Available courses include Electric Vehicle Safety: An Awareness Level Training, which is a free online program designed to equip first responders with the knowledge and skills needed to safely respond to incidents involving electric and hybrid vehicles.
Propane Education & Research Council
The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) provides an introductory course for automobile service technicians looking to understand propane autogas components, systems, and operations. The course, Propane Autogas Vehicle Inspection Training: Introduction for Automobile Service Technicians, covers information about propane as a transportation fuel, safety considerations, propane vehicle systems and component operation, and vehicle inspections. PERC also offers a grant program for educational institutions (tech schools, community colleges, etc) to receive an in-person, hands-on version of their technician training with laboratory equipment included, worth over $7,500.

National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium
The National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC) offers several online training courses focused on electric vehicles and alternative fuel vehicle safety. Current online offerings include Electric Vehicle Safety: An Awareness Level Training (offered through NVFC), an introductory course for first responders; Alternative Fuel Vehicle Recycling Safety Training, covering the safe handling, dismantling, and recycling of electric and alternative fuel vehicles; and Alternative Fuel Vehicle Towing and Roadside Assistance Training, which prepares towing and roadside personnel to respond to incidents involving alternative fuel vehicles. These online courses include certificates of completion upon successful completion of course assessments.
